Innovative technology, user-friendly platforms and streamlined delivery capabilities set us apart and make us an industry leader in the world of online food ordering. When you join our team, you become part of a community that works together to innovate, solve problems, grow, work hard and have a ton of fun in the process!

Why Work For Us

Grubhub is a place where authentically fun culture meets innovation and teamwork. We believe in empowering people and opening doors for new opportunities. If you’re looking for a place that values strong relationships, embraces diverse ideas–all while having fun together–Grubhub is the place for you!

You’ll be the manager of the Reliability team, which is nestled within Restaurant Technology’s Operations department. Our Ops department is split into an “Integrations” wing and a “Health” wing, with a few sub-teams under each. Reliability is our most tenured Health team, depended upon widely for owning the smooth operation of large POS-integrated brands and small individually integrated restaurants. Your and your team will investigate, resolve, and conduct root cause analyses for issues that arise, as well as drive initiatives to tamp down order cancelation rates. You will work closely with software engineering teams and brand management teams, but your closest peers will be our Operations Integrations team members, with whom you’ll work collaboratively on a daily basis.

This position requires a mix of technical and business acumen and is excellent for those who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments, with skills in management, software development, cross-team collaboration, and operations. Your direct reports are some of the most kick-butt, collaborative, and talented people in the company, so get ready to love coming to work!

The Impact You Will Make

  • Manage a group of self-starters (ten or fewer people) who field inbound issues via Jira and maintain an on-call rotation for alerts, including after-hours and weekends
  • Provide technical insight and conduct deep dives to help proactively find, or reactively resolve, issues on the platform: utilize APIs/Postman, database queries, reports, and institutional knowledge (wiki notes, product briefs, etc.)
  • Work with both internal and external stakeholders to triage and remedy issues with specific integrations, restaurants, or brands to improve the Grubhub experience for diners, restaurants, or our team overall
  • Institutionalize knowledge and improve processes that make operations ever renewing or maintenance-free
  • Grow and develop a great team; you’re their manager, leader, and mentor!

What You Bring to the Table

  • Outstanding communication skills across stakeholders (internal and external, regardless of title); easily tailor communication to the technical (or non-technical) level of your audience
  • A natural curiosity: Our software platforms are large and complex, and learning everything at once is impossible. Be ready to learn something new every day for a very, very long time
  • People management experience:
    • Strong preference for 5+ years of people management experience that honed your abilities to delegate, drive accountability, and develop team members
    • At least half of your reports will be fully remote and geographically diverse; candidates with experience managing distributed teams are preferred
  • 2+ years of operations or software technology experience
  • A penchant for problem solving & creativity: Bring your strong interest in digging deep and solving issues–considering multiple approaches to a problem would be a highly beneficial skill here
  • A focus on outcomes: Help your team prioritize where to spend effort to yield the best results. You’ll work together with the Operations department to define what “best” means
  • The ability to define and adhere to the team’s scope of responsibility–set boundaries for your team and help other teams understand them

Got These? Even Better:

  • Prior experience operating in or implementing Agile/lean practices
  • Familiarity with our tool suite:
    • Sumologic, Splunk, or Datadog specifically, or with log entries in general
    • Jira/AOI reporting
    • Confluence
    • Pager Duty
    • ReDash or an overall familiarity with SQL queries
  • Experience in the restaurant industry or with Point of Sale systems
